During the summer of 2026, I traveled to northern Ethiopia to document the ongoing civil war between the federal government and the Fano rebel militias. Entering the Amhara region means witnessing a devastating conflict unfolding in absolute international silence. This is a land steeped in an ancient Orthodox Christian heritage, where centuries-old stone churches stand as silent witnesses to a tragic, fratricidal war. This is not a clash between enemy nations, but between neighbors, and members of the same families, divided by a political line that has turned shared history into absolute hostility. The photographs in this project reflect that intimate pain—a reality that, on a personal level, was incredibly difficult to process. Looking through the viewfinder, I found myself capturing the faces of kids my own age, and even much younger, fighting on the front lines. It is deeply moving to see how the youth of an entire region have traded their future for a rifle. These young people, forced into a premature maturity yet still carrying the innocence of their age in their eyes, are the true testament to the cost of this conflict. They are young lives trapped in a cycle of violence, left hanging in the balance at the heart of an ancient civilization fighting not to fall apart.
